QR(Quick Response) Codes are a type of two-dimensional barcode that can be read using dedicated QR reading devices  and smart phones(using QR code scanner/reader apps), that refers directly to text, emails, websites, phone numbers and more. You may have even got to this site by scanning a QR code.
Who invented the QR Code?
Originally it was designed by Denso-Wave - a subsidiary of the Toyota Group in 1994 to track parts in the vehicle manufacturing industry. In India Ford was the first company to use QR code for advertising which was used to promote Ford Figo.

How is a QR Code different from a normal 1D UPC barcode?
In the QR codes the information is stored in both directions vertically or horizontally and can be scanned vertically or horizontally but in case of barcode information is stored vertically only and can be scanned vertically.

How can I scan a QR Code?
If you have a Smartphone like an iPhone, Android or Blackberry then there a number of different QR code scanner applications are available on web which you can get by just searching “QR code scanner/reader” on Google or ply store for android. QR code reader/scanner can read and decode data from a QR code. The most of them are completely free, and all you have to do once you install one is to use your phone's camera to scan the QR code, which will then automatically load the encoded data for you.
